Under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act, also known as the “700 Billion Bail-Out Plan” adds a qualified commuting reimbursement to the type of transportation benefits an employer may provide an employee.
Under this plan, an employee who commutes with a bike for a substantial portion of travel between the employee’s residence and place of employment is eligible to receive $20 a month.
If you offer transportation reimbursement this section of the Act will go into effect on January 1, 2009.
